It removes the driver assistance features of RS, with the exception of surround vision, and removes the heated wheel. True North returns to body colour trim and adds an all-weather floormat package. Leather seating is standard and the steering wheel is heated. Following distance indicator, forward collision alert, front pedestrian, rear camera mirror, and HD surround vision are all added to the driver assistance suite. A 120-V power outlet is standard, the passenger seat gains power adjustment, and the audio is a Bose premium system while the infotainment adds navigation. RS adds black 20-inch wheels and a unique RS grille with black accents and trim. The infotainment screen is enlarged to 8.0-inches and adds satellite radio, while the active safety suite adds lane change and blind spot alert, rear cross traffic, and park assist. Seven-passenger seating is standard, while the driver seat gains power adjustment and both front seats are heated. A power liftgate is standard as are roof rails, while the driver info centre is upgraded to 4.2-inches. LT adds painted mirror caps and other trim, and the outside mirrors add turn signal indicators. The glass is deep tinted and there are variable speed wipers. Three-zone AC is standard as is a 3.5-inch driver dash information centre.

It has a six-speaker audio system working through a 7.0-inch Chevrolet touchscreen infotainment system that can handle two Bluetooth devices as well as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. LS has seating for eight and 18-inch alloy wheels. All get a 3.6L V6 making 310 hp and have a nine-speed automatic. A conventional AWD system is still offered.Ĭhevrolet Traverse is offered in LS and LT trims with front or all-wheel drive, and RS, True North, Premier, and High Country with all-wheel drive only. So changes are very small, consisting of the removal of the optional dual-clutch all-wheel drive system. While an extensive refresh was expected for 2021, that effort was forced back to 2022. Like the rest of this large crossover class, it's the replacement for the minivan but without the sliding doors. The Kia Telluride, Honda Pilot, and Nissan Pathfinder, meanwhile, undercut the Traverse in their most expensive forms. The Traverse has long been Chevrolet's option for buyers looking for three rows of seats all large enough to hold adults, along with tremendous amounts of cargo, but who aren't ready for the larger exterior size and more truck-like manners and construction of the Tahoe or Suburban. The range-topping Ford Explorer Platinum comes with a more powerful and more efficient hybrid powertrain and offers a twin-turbo V6 as an option. But if space isn't your number one priority, there are better values on the market. That’s the smart buy if you’re shopping for a three-row Chevy crossover. The LT Leather trim, with all the same active safety equipment, an identical 8.0-inch touchscreen, and the rear camera mirror, is available for about $48,000. Instead, consider a Traverse other than the High Country. That’s a lot of cash for a vehicle without a premium badge on the nose. All-wheel drive adds $2,200 to that figure, while my tester’s $495 Radiant Red paint brought the sticker to $56,090. The Traverse might be a good value if you need room, but the range-topping High Country is (like so many other premium trims of mainstream three-rows) a pretty poor value, adding $17,480 to the Traverse’s $35,915 (including the $1,395 destination charge) base price, for a trim price of $53,395. The nine-speed engages readily off the line, but while underway, its focus is more on smoothness and refinement rather than swapping gears quickly.

In the real world, the Traverse’s V6 and nine-speed auto work well together – power builds gently although the engine is responsive when given a boot full of throttle.

Despite best-in-class standard horsepower, the Traverse’s 5,000-pound (optional) tow limit ties the Pilot and Telluride and trails the Explorer (5,300 pounds) and Pathfinder (up to 6,000 pounds). Only the turbocharged, 300-hp Ford Explorer out-twists the Traverse, with 310 lb-ft. The 3.6-liter V6 packs 310 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque, which outguns the Kia Telluride (291 hp and 262 lb-ft), Honda Pilot (280 and 262), and Nissan Pathfinder (295 and 270). The Traverse’s performance is adequate but, like so many other vehicles in the segment, totally unexciting.
