Because you need at least some points into Huntsman to get some of the more powerful abilities. It was pretty crazy how much of a difference it made in the Blackpits encounter for example. My two Tactician runs with a spear user, one where I ran it alongside a 2h Strength build can attest to that. It's probably going to do more at a distance than a 2h Str build using mediocre summons or waiting on cooldowns for Polymorph skills. Standard arrows to the face will work fine, and you don't need Huntsman to use consumable arrows. Being a switch-hitter capable of raining down normal arrows for just 1AP for the weapon swap that hurt just as much as someone with points for Huntsman skills until very late in the game makes a lot of situations significantly easier, then you can swap back to being a capable melee combatant with all those Warfare CC options and the reach of a spear for the same minimal cost. It's not flashy, but it doesn't need to be. No need to split points into Huntsman when just putting more into Warfare will improve both melee and ranged physical damage without needing high ground. That way, you dont have to switch weapons or use a completely different set of abilities, that you otherwise dont have access to. If you use a strength based build two-handed, and feels that it is "too dangerous to go into melee", use 1 of your secondary or tertiary skills to assist you(Polymorph, Summoning, Necromancy etc.). Simply pick the Warfare skills to increase physical damage, and use Huntsman skills to apply damage with Bow. If you already have a decent spear, a decent bow, and, let us say, 5 in both Warfare and 5 in Huntsman, with skills that fits both playstyles(which is a lot of skills, if both playstyles need to stay effective), you would probably be better off just sticking to your bow at all times. But if you plan to equally split in Huntsman(for when using the bow), there is little benefit to actually stick to the spear in the first place. I just count my blessings that it's even a viable build to begin with because so many other fantasy RPGs just forget spears exist period. Stat requirements for armor are easy to meet, so that's not really a downside, and I always get a huge smile on my face every time I see heavy armor at a vendor with +Finesse and +Warfare on it.

There’s not much reason to use Spider Legs anymore.Originally posted by Hobocop:Yeah, it's pretty much for the additional melee reach which is a lot more handy than it appears at first glance plus being able to swap over to a bow or crossbow if it's too dangerous for melee since you'll be pumping Warfare anyway.

So… they just made Worm Tremor overpowered and nerfed a weaker version of it to the point of irrelevance. It didn’t have any effect to make those status effects ignore armor. Worm Tremor is clearly the better option by comparison for an armor ignoring root effect, yet Spider Legs was needed and Worm Tremor buffed to take its place.įor additional reference, the old Torturer talent only made the damage over time status effects, bleed, poison and burning, last one additional turn.

It doesn’t make much sense to me since the total AP cost compared to Worm Tremor is the same, but webs are able to burn, removing them entirely and the burning status effect removes the root. You’ll have to cast Spider Legs a second time to get a second Web spell. Now, I believe the cast is a higher AP cost and the cooldown is long enough that you only get it once per cast of the main spell itself. Spider Legs used to offer the web ability for 1 AP and it would be able to be cast every turn.
